Pharmaceutical marketing analytics connects a campaign objective with available data and a comparison method. Media measures describe exposure and response, search signals describe interest, Brand Lift evaluates brand measures and Sales Lift compares purchases in an agreed sample. Each method answers a different question. Measurement plans, sources and study conditions are determined before launch.
Working steps
- 01Define the question and measure
- 02Check data and comparison methods
- 03Run the campaign and measurement
- 04Explain results and limitations
Measurement planning before launch
Start with the decision the campaign results should inform. Revising a message needs perception evidence; reallocating media buying needs comparable media metrics; evaluating purchases needs Sales Lift. Record the primary metric, baseline period, geography, source and comparison method. For Brand Lift and Sales Lift, separately agree data sufficiency, methodology, timing and cost before the campaign.
Exposure quality and response
We review environment, fraud and viewability, then assess attention, clicks, completion and available website actions. The ATR calculation is agreed before launch. Media measures inform placement management; they do not directly establish growth in pharmacy sales.
Interest indices, queries and share of search
Compare the medicine with the category and selected competitors over the same periods and regions. The index reflects relative interest trends under the defined methodology; queries describe search activity; share of search describes the brand’s position within the agreed set. None of these measures equals buyer numbers or sales market share.
Brand Lift
The study evaluates changes in selected brand awareness and perception measures. Questions, groups and comparisons are agreed before the campaign. A higher brand measure should not automatically be interpreted as more purchases.
Sales Lift
When data permits, we compare purchases between test and control groups. Pharmatic runs the study with a telecom partner using available receipt data. The main measure, matching and purchase window are defined in advance. Results apply to the study sample and design.
Factors that change the interpretation
Seasonality, pharmacy availability, price, promotions and competitor activity may coincide with advertising. A simple before-and-after comparison cannot separate their effects. The report states the method, source coverage and factors that limit conclusions.
Reading a case result
In the ALMAG project, test-group purchase conversion was 34% higher than the control group’s. In the Neobutin campaign, video-exposed users bought the medicine 10% more frequently. These are different measures and comparisons. Each new campaign needs its own measure and study feasibility check.
What the report includes
Each report conclusion should show the metric, underlying values, period, source and comparison basis. Check whether the difference concerns a share of people, purchase frequency or product quantity: these results are not interchangeable. Describe contact quality, interest trends and commissioned studies separately. A recommendation for the next campaign should follow from the evidence, such as revising the message when contact quality is good but response is weak.
The question each method answers
| Question | Data or method | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| How advertising exposure performed | Viewability, attention, clicks, completion and available actions | Exposure or a click does not establish a purchase. |
| How interest changed | Interest index, queries and share of search | Interest growth is not sales growth. |
| How brand measures changed | Brand Lift with agreed questions and groups | Awareness change does not establish more purchases. |
| How purchases differ between groups | Sales Lift with comparable groups and suitable data | A sample result cannot automatically represent all sales. |
Common questions
Does rising search interest prove advertising success?
Not on its own. We check timing, seasonality and other events. An appropriate comparison is needed to assess influence, and purchases are evaluated separately.
Can Sales Lift be added after a campaign has ended?
The standard Pharmatic study is designed before launch. Without a planned control, a retrospectively chosen group cannot be guaranteed comparable. Retrospective analysis is a different format.
